Sensible orders for one, two or three days, built around opening hours and travel time. As in any German city, the binding constraint is what is shut on a Sunday.

Most Munich itineraries are lists of sights in the order someone liked them. The constraint that actually shapes a day here is different: what is shut, and when the crowd arrives.

Three rules do most of the work. Sunday closes the shops but not the museums, churches or parks โ€” so Sunday is a sightseeing day and a useless shopping day. The Glockenspiel performs at fixed times and the square fills for it, so plan to be somewhere else or to be early. And the old town is small: almost everything inside the ring of former walls is walkable, so travel time is rarely worth optimising.

What is worth optimising is the expensive and the timed: castle tickets, museum closing days, and the Sunday museum price. Those three facts reshape a weekend more than any ordering of sights.
