The largest science and technology museum in the world, on its own island, and far too big to see in one visit.
What it costs
Ticketed, and one of the few Munich museums where the ticket is unambiguously worth a full day.
It has been undergoing a long modernisation, so sections open and close in phases. Check which halls are actually open before you go β the one you came for may be behind hoarding.

When to go
Open daily including most Mondays, which makes it the reliable rainy-day answer when the art museums are shut. Allow half a day minimum; people routinely allow two hours and leave frustrated.
Getting there
S-Bahn to Isartor, or tram to Deutsches Museum. It sits on an island in the Isar, a short walk from the Altstadt.

If you only have an hour
An hour buys you one department. Pick it before you go in β the aviation hall, the mining tunnel or the ship section β and ignore the rest. Trying to walk the whole museum in an hour is the standard mistake.
What people get wrong
It is not a children’s museum, though children love it. It holds the first German submarine, a full mining exhibit underground, and one of the oldest surviving aircraft β and the mine tunnel alone is a kilometre long.
