What it costs
The park is free and it is enormous โ canals, avenues, a lake and several small pavilions scattered through it. Most of a good afternoon here costs nothing.
The palace is ticketed. So, separately, are the park pavilions (Amalienburg, Badenburg, Pagodenburg, Magdalenenklause) and the Marstallmuseum of state carriages. A combined ticket covers them all and is the better value if you intend to do more than the main building.
When to go
The park pavilions close entirely in winter โ usually from mid-October to late March โ while the palace and the carriage museum stay open. That is the single most common wasted plan here.
Getting there
Tram 17 to Schloss Nymphenburg, which puts you at the head of the canal.
If you only have an hour
Walk the canal to the palace front, then go straight to the Amalienburg in the park rather than the state rooms โ fifteen minutes, on the combined ticket, and the best rococo interior in Bavaria. Check it is not the closed season first.
What people get wrong
Most visitors do the main palace and leave. The Amalienburg, a small hunting lodge in the park, is the finest rococo interior in Bavaria and is on the same combined ticket. It takes fifteen minutes and is better than the state rooms.
